Free Exercise Tips

From LoveToKnow Exercise

Most people would love to receive free exercise tips. However, how can you be sure that the tips are actually worth more than the price, or lack of price, you paid for it? While everyone might have an opinion about the best exercise plans, researchers have found that fitness programs do not have a one-size-fits all prescription. For example, the yoga program that is perfect for the tight-muscled, high strung executive might not be the best solution for a woman who has suffered from injuries and weight problems due to joint laxity, hyper-mobility and hypothyroid conditions. She would probably do better with an aerobic and weight training program. This brings up an important question: how does one evaluate free exercise tips?

Evaluating Free Exercise Tips

In judging the value of free exercise tips, you should first determine whether the tip is an opinion or a fact that is backed up by research. There is nothing wrong with opinions. However, opinions may not be suitable for all people. Here are some guidelines in following free tips:

  • Does it come from a voice of a professional authority? Is the tip-giver a personal trainer, a fitness pro or a physician?
  • Can the tip-giver back up his or her tip with articles or research on the subject matter?
  • Did the tip-giver listen to and understand your unique needs, and offer a tip that is appropriate?

All of these factors should be considered when evaluating exercise tips.

Best Places to get Exercise Tips

In addition to relying on friends and acquaintances for tips, you might also want to consider attending public lectures on health, fitness and wellness. Many of these are offered free of charge. Granted, in some cases, the presenter has something to sell. However, this may not necessarily be a bad thing. You can usually find fitness event listings in your local newspapers. They will often take place in the following venues:

  • Fitness Centers: Often, a fitness center is pushing a new type of class or piece of exercise equipment, and will offer a free demo to the general public.
  • Small Fitness or Pilates Studios: New studios, whose owners are trying to build a business, sometimes offer lecture/demo days.
  • Senior Citizen and Community Centers: These centers often offer free lectures that are of value to seniors, such as exercise for arthritis and balance issues.
  • Hospitals and Physical Therapy Centers: These venues might offer free lectures on fitness tips related to illness or injury, or other health conditions. For example, a hospital may hold a free lecture about prenatal exercise, exercise and heart disease, managing high blood pressure through exercise or keeping kids fit. Likewise, a physical therapy clinic may present lectures on preventing athletic injuries, treating athletic injuries and post-rehab exercise.
  • Exercise Equipment Stores: Exercise equipment stores need to think of creative ways to sell their equipment to the general public. What better way to do that than to offer a free, hands-on experience?

If you have been considering the purchase of home exercise equipment, this is the ideal way to get information about the product. Even if you eventually decide to buy the product online at a cheaper price, trying it in person allows you to feel what it's like to actually use it, and then make an informed purchase decision.

Of course, you can always rely on online reviews of the particular piece of equipment. However, this brings up a particular problem with exercise tips online. When it comes to exercise equipment reviews, you have no way of knowing if the person writing the review actually works for the company.

Finding Exercise Tips Online

Many excellent exercise tips can be found on the world wide web. For example, take a look at the free ab workout offered by MK Danielsson. He's a certified personal trainer, whose articles have appeared in American Fitness Magazine, Musclemag and Hardcore Muscle magazine. In addition, here are some free exercise plans for beginners and intermediates. In some cases, free tips can be quite valuable!
